Freeze Your Thorns Off 5K Race Report

I think I got in last minute to join along with Adam's FYTO 5k Virtual Race. If so, I may be getting that new body glide I've been so desperately needing (much better than prize money), and if not, at least my treadmill got a nice wipe down for pictures...
I had already done a Les Mills Body Pump class this morning (more on that later) and so I had no idea what kind of energy I had in me. I ended up taking yesterday as a rest day because I realized I had worked out 10 or 11 days in a row with no break. My run and swim on Thursday just plain sucked. I went into my 5k today knowing I would not accept 10m/m but that I WOULD accept anything else and this is what I got. I had to end on a very high note (for me) to get it, too :-)

Snapped my proof and tried to get an O in for my ducks but this was the best I could do because I still haven't figured out how to use the self-timer on my camera. Then I ran to my desk to see if there was any news on Michael and there was an e-mail from mom saying that a bed opened up here in Portland and he'll be traveling by ambulance shortly to start treatment. I thank you for all your prayers. We have been praying desperately that he could be moved up here as there was no cancer center where he was, yet treatment could not be delayed further. We've been praying all night for a bed to open up.
Praise GOD!

Now, for all the hype about the new Les Mills Body Pump class that was being launched at our gym today...I have to say that I would have rather slept in. I made it in time for the "technique" addition they were doing today...along with a throng of other crazy people, but the class was just...I don't know...like any other body pump class. I'm not sure what I was expecting. I found humor in the lady who was griping to the front desk that it's not fair she couldn't take the class because no one ever told her she had to "sign up" for it. However, every single sign in the gym for over a week now has indicated you MUST pre-register. I found no humor in the fact that every single move made my elbow ache, nor that one of the trainers was on me like white on rice to let me know just how badly my squats suck. If I had been more awake, I would have had him work with me on them more, but instead I just shooed him away. It was too early on a Saturday for that.

Now I'm off to clean (my house and myself) and relax until church...unless it snows as they've promised. In that case, I've already de-dog pooped the backyard and we're ready to sled :-)
Happy Saturday!

Nice 5k!!

I've never taken a body pump class before, but I prefer to do all that stuff at home anyway.

Little O, big O it's all good. I won't be doing any self pictures at the game on Monday! Hopefully my husband will cooperate and be a good photographer.

Katie, Body Pump is fun, but with my elbow tendonitis it was just plain ouchie!

Andrew ~ Whatever! You're a snow running stud and you kicked my toasty warm butt today :-)

ERG ~ We saw some flakes earlier, but now nothing is coming down. Portland forecast is for snow possible today, poss tomorrow, but I think Wednesday is when we might actually see some.

Hi Julie!! I've been away from blog land the last couple days. Praise the Lord Michael got a bed there. I will continue to pray for him!

Nice 5K!! Your running is coming back :) I hope everything is feeling good.

I like body pump for the music. I used to teach bodystep and all of those programs have great music, but the moves are so repetitive, it can be hard to maintain form. I'm always surprised that isn't more injuries.

I got your note the other day, it was fun getting mail from a blogger friend :)

Hi Abby! Did you know this was my first 5k EVER? I need to run an official one now :-)

I'm totally feeling the body pump class today, not in my upper body since I used such light weights, but my legs are screaming from all the DLs, squats and lunges.

Thanks for your prayers!
Glad you received your note :-)

Yeah, our times WERE close! That doesn't say much for me, since you had already done a body pump class before you ran!

Way to go on your 5K. I just ran my first last month. Love your gym stories. People need to READ the signs. I'm so sorry to hear about Michael. He is in my thoughts and prayers. This should just give you more motivation.
