The Very Good Run With A Not So Good Finish

I've been feeling a bit off since Tuesday. I had a really hard time with nausea on our Tuesday night bike ride. Fortunately, Michele is saving Logie for next week, so this was "just" a 35 mile ride  with two hills - Newberry and a longer sustained climb similar to Pac Crest on a street called Springville. I made it through the ride but didn't feel spectacular about it.

Yesterday, hours before I was supposed meet for my evening 8 mile run, I could be found on the couch trying to sleep away nausea and dear daughter taking care of me with heating pads for my tummy. I finally arose, ate some chicken and rice soup and headed out to meet JB and I wasn't sure who else. There ended up being 6 of us...Fast Nik...um...not keeping up with him, 3 of the faster girls on the team...um...probably not keeping up with them for long, and JB...whose pace is slower than mine. Poop.

We all started out together at Vera Katz and the plan was to head South until Springwater ended into a gravel road and then head back, since the East Esplanade is closed right now due to high water. I decided to hang with the girls for as long as I could and then drop back and run by myself. To my surprise we got to mile 4 and I was doing fine. I had no idea what our pace was, but knew it was faster than I usually run. However, I felt pretty darn good at this pace - it was definitely not too hard.

We headed back and my chicken soup started really repeating on me and I started to feel my tummy rumbling in a not so great way. At 6.5 miles, I dropped back a bit to release some gas in some varying ways but always kept the girls in my sight. I thought about catching up with them, but my tummy was really revolting at this point. Let's just say that I wasn't about to trust a fart by this time. The last 1/4 mile I dropped to a walk or more than likely face some pretty embarrassing consequences. As it was, I was afraid to look at the back of my shorts.

I figure that I was only about 2 minutes behind the girls when I finally reached them. Their pace was 9m/m for the whole time, so I know that I at least did that for the first 6.5 miles and THAT MAKES ME SUPER HAPPY. I can't believe I'm running 9 m/m again and not dying from it.

It's 5:30am and my tummy is still revolting. I have a meeting with a client in a few hours and I'm just hoping I don't barf on her desk while I'm there.

I leave you with pictures of the kids from Field Day yesterday.

I am SO STOKED because today is their last day...and then...

congrats on the pace, especially not feeling well. Sure hope you feel better soon, I know it makes training far less fun when you are holding back a little tossed cookies

"Tummy rumbling in a not so great way" - is there really ever a great kind of tummy rumbling?

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling so hot - I hope you're on the mend soon so you can keep pushing those 9:00 miles!

Ugh..I'm sorry your having stomach problems. I can't believe you still went on your run though..that's pretty hardcore! Hopefully you'll feel better soon!

I'm sure the tummy issues are just the realization that the kids won't be heading out to school each morning now. :)

Wow, Julie, I'm with Aimee...if I'd felt that way I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gone out for 8 miles. Great job keeping up the pace when you were feeling lousy! Feel better soon!

Good job on finishing...yikes there is nothing worse than stomach bugs etc...on runs:( Love the field day posts. I am a little jealous your kids are done with school. We go until the 24th if you can believe it. Way to many snow days in NH this year.

Sounds like you've really got a bug. I can. not. believe you ran so far feeling like that. It's amazing what a little determination (and a little crazy!) can accomplish.

A never had field day, they have an all school track meet every year with a couple of other schools. I think field day is great!

Eeek!!! Pretty sure you just described my last run as well! Never before did I want to get home soooo bad! I mean I was in my neighborhood staking out bushes where I'd hope that other residents wouldn't see me. Sucks to run great and then have your body revolt!

LOVE that song. Sometimes it is the first song on my play list at that oh so special time of the beginning of summer!

Feel better!
