Don't ask this boy...
...or his mama...we're more into crunching than licking. So after a fine afternoon down by the river after church on Sunday...eating things like Tootsie Roll Pops and sugar with a little ice to go with it...
...we got ready yesterday to hit up the dentist...
...only to find out that we've got some "spots". Hmmm. I am not a perfect mother (GASP!...I know!) and there are some things that I just don't worry too much about. For instance, I'm not big on making people wash their hands before meals. Sue me.
I do make them wear bike helmets and buckle up in the car. They have to do their homework and be respectful to themselves and other people. Brushing their teeth? Well, I require it at least once a day so I can stand being near enough to them to kiss them. Apparently, this is not enough. According to the dentist, not only do they need to brush twice a day, but I need to help them. On top of that they are supposed to be flossing! What? Oh wait...I'm supposed to be flossing too...sigh.
So after a talking to (that I rightfully deserved) we headed to the local frozen yogurt place to eat sticky gummy worms on top of our froyo...
Ya...I also let them put their dirty shoes up on other people's furniture (unless I remember I'm the mom...and then I tell them to get their stinkin' feet on the floor!!!)
and then on the way home we flossed with the floss sticks they gave us.
I haven't made this brushing and flossing thing important to them...and I should. So as of today...I'm a flosser...and I will lead by example.
Is there anything you are embarrassed about in your parenting duties?
What do you let slide?
Or do you head in the other direction from this mom here and tend to take it all a little too seriously? Is there even such a thing as being too seriously dutiful as a parent? The floor is yours...

I pick my battles. I let their rooms get downright slovenly.
Flossing phases in and out. I always floss mine though. But I sure didn't as a kid.
oh man, do i ever let things slip sometimes!
I really HAVE to floss. I hate corn on the cob because it always gets stuck. Anyhow...both my middle kids need to floss and I have not been very diligent. Dr. Bill will remind me soon.
After subbing in a certain school district that had a flu (vomit) outbreak, I will always make the kids wash their hands. :p
Well, my son announced at baseball that he's been wearing the same underwear for 3 days. My response as I got to thinking was... "only 3 days?" He slips through the cracks sometimes.....
I work at the dentist so the kids brush their teeth. I take very little seriously though. Life's too short to take seriously. They're well rounded kids whether they sleep in their clothes and in each other's bed's while watching TV or not-ha!
I go through phases with my kids and flossing, although I am anal about flossing every night myself. And I let plenty of other things slip. I totally agree with Teamarcia that you have to pick your battles.
I was not so good with the teeth thing..I don't care (for the most part) how messy their rooms are and I'm sure there are many more thing that others would consider me a bad mom for...oh yea I don't make them wash their hands either...but neither of them is ever sick....and from what I can tell you are a fantastic mom!
I let my son play as much xbox as he wants and stay up as late as he wants as long as he keeps his grades up. Oh his room is a mess too. I only make him change his sheets and bring his dirty clothes down stairs when his room starts to smell like teenage boy feet :-).
See my blog for the latest in blogger awards that I've passed your way! :)
Ugh...flossing! I always seem to forget about that, but my boys think flossing is awesome...go figure! :)
I'm definitely not a stickler mom and will pick my battles most of the time. some things just aren't worth worrying about!
I let a lot slide. Things that are housework related slide for everyone :P They do have to brush... but I am a slacker on the flossing and I shouldn't be. I slack on the "everyone eats the same thing for dinner" plan... I play short-order cook way too much. Hand-washing ... we're getting better about that.
I am embarrassed about their fingernails, though :P
Helmets, car seats, respectful behavior... those are things that really matter to me. And we really curb computer time and video game playing.
I'm not a parent... yet. But one thing I CAN agree on is crunching on Tootsie Pops! I could never just LICK to the center! hahaha
I don't make my pets brush OR floss! I'm such a slacker! ;)
