I also thought my days of public jumping rope were over (sorry...way too much info on my bladder control, I'm sure), but there I was this morning at my second day of bootcamp jumping away. This second class did not disappoint. If I thought yesterday was hard, today was simply H.E.L.L. My form was so poor and sloppy at the end that I had a bright red blush of embarrassment over top of my deep purple flush that was trying to indicate I was about to pass out. I was so happy to be done...and THEN
Damn that towel!! |
and sat down to drip a pool of sweat around my butt and started to stretch so I could leave.
Two MORE sets?
Brutal.
It seemed to never end...crab something this, squat something that, repeat, double repeat, twirl over onto your stomach and give me 10. Over and over and seemingly over again.
and...
I. Loved. Every. Minute. Of. It.
...and tomorrow is the only day I don't have bootcamp this week, so seems like a good night to have a drink (or two...) right?
So...WWYD? Drink or swim? Swim then drink? Swim and sleep?
How does alcohol play in your life centered around health and fitness?

Swim then drink.
Alcohol and fitness. Booze definitely take a backseat for me in training but I ALWAYS have a drink on the night before my day off. I also have wine with dinner occasionally if I feel like it. I'm currently drinking all the time because of my glute strain and my traveling husband and could probably use an intervention. That may or may not have been a joke-ha!!
That bootcamp sounds brutal. I understand the I.loved.every.minute.of it. though!! I can't wait to spend some time this fall getting back in better total body shape!!
OK-so enjoy your well-deserved drink-or two!!
Ha ha..your thoughts about the bootcamp class were hilarious! It sounds like a tough class!
Oh man, I'm so far removed when it comes to drinking alcohol. I'll have an occasional glass of wine, but other than that, the days of partying and drinking are LONG gone! I say go to the swim class then grab a drink with your hubby when you get home!
Swim then drink.
But make the drink a wind down type drink, like baileys in hot chocolate or something.
Love the boot camp description.
Swim ... don't drink. Dehydration. I LOOOOVE that towel ... awesome saying!
HAHAHA! Swim then drink ALL THE WAY! Nothing like a cold beer to follow up a work-out! Yummm!
That's a cool towel! I want!
I'm probably not the one to ask. I just feel too old to drink much anymore. I couldn't drink first and function, and if I drank after I couldn't function the next day. My friend Michelle would say before and after :) Maybe follow her lead if you have it in you!
Swim then drink. It will help relax you to get ready for bed.
i'd swim then drink. Makes my swim more motivating when I know a nice glass of wine is waiting. hehe.
Drink, then swim. :)
Alcohol and fitness...well, alcohol is currently subbing for my evening soda since I'm trying to cut down on soda. Normally, I may or may not have a drink some evenings. It's not a big thing in my life, and it's very very rare (sadly) for us to go out and have more than one drink.
Swim then drink, you'll have a better swim. :) I know those beers are tempting!
Not that it would come as a surprise, but I would go with the drink. If I were in a good day, swim then drink.
My fitness life kind of sucks, which is obvious if you take a look at my training and my imminent fail in my next half... I think I should follow your example more :-)
Swim then drink!
I love my beer & wine and manage to find ways to fit them in with training but I do tend to drink less (less desire) when I'm training harder. Not sure why.
Excuse me, I need to go refill my glass from the kegerator...
Swim then sleep, just my opinion
hmm. I do love my wine, but if I had an evening workout, I would skip the drink after. That said, since I usually run in the daytime hours, I have wine with dinner, and on the weekends, but not the night before long runs. Although, wine is a carb....good for loading! : )
I can't contribute to this question as I've replaced my love of beer with working out. More power to those who have the self control and discipline to be able to balance both...unfortunatly, I'm not one of them.
I love the towel! I'll have to get one.
Drink-swim-drink, not sure what it would be called as a sport though. Drinquathalon?
Swim the sleep...that would be me anyway.
I don't drink at all during the week and on weekends will only sometimes drink once all running has been done. This will nearly always be Sunday afternoon or evening. Most of the time I only drink alcohol once a month maybe. During serious training I won't even think about it for months.
You always make me laugh! Your boot camp sounds serious. You are going to be so glad you did it though! I need to do an instructed swim class. Then maybe I'd be half as cool as you and finally do a sprint tri. And I'm so with you on the jump rope thing. Dang kids and what they've done to my body. I totally wear a pad when I jump rope. Maybe that was too much info. But it works.
How about swim and then evaluate whether you still want the drink or would rather just go to bed?
That way, the post-swim is a win-win either way!
I'm so boring now that I run. It is a rare occasion that I have a drink at all, and when I do it is usually just one -- two if I'm feeling wild.
Julie you just crack me up!
Love the towel!
lol your bootcamp sounds tough but fun! An awesome workout!
Generally no matter if I am working out or not, I try to limit my alcohol intake. Though at special events I do drink some - maybe once a month on average. Though if I'm training for something, I try to limit alcohol intake even further. This is another reason why I like training for races, because it keeps me more focused on eating and drinking better!
Sounds like I need to go join the boot camp class at my gym instead of just always going to bodypump or pump my body or whatever they call it. Personally I think it should be called squat till you puke, but that's just me. I wouldn't get into alcohol after a big swim. Swimming is pretty seriously dehydrating to a person and then you add alcohol and next think you know your running naked down the street screaming "I'm a canoe! Nobody tip me over!" Or, again, maybe that's just me.
Wow, I misspelled a lot of words in that comment.
My alcohol consumption went way down once I started training consistently. However, having one or two drinks per evening doesn't seem to have any lingering effects the next morning. As a bonus, alcohol helps me fall asleep faster too.
Bad idea to dink right before swimming.
"Satan's mistress", good one.
You make me laugh :).
I so rarely drink, but I do love a good margarita now and then...and one can never pass up a post-race beer :). I have gone 6 months before w/o a drink - I think I was temporarily insane! :)
swim then drink. When in doubt....drink
The towel rocks!! Wipe your face in that saying!!
Swim and bottoms up?
I heart bootcamp and did a class today!!
Ha! I agree with jenn, swim then drink! ;) I usually have a beer after my long runs and then maybe another one or two! :) And If I know I have an easy day the next day I will have a drink. Depends on how hard I'm training. lately I seem to be drinking a lot more than usual but if I'm in serious training then it is probably once a week that I will have a beer or two.
