Oh...What Have I Gotten Myself Into Now??

My girlfriend just talked me into doing The Wild Canyon Games next June. For someone who gets lost every single time I leave the house...the geocaching part of this whole big mess is what scares me the most...but there's plenty of other stuff to be scared of.

The weekend starts with a party on Friday night. Saturday morning bright and early, three members participate in a triathlon and the other 4 members head out to do some geocaching with the snakes and scorpions over 170 square miles of desert. We then move on to the zip line, ropes course, canyon swing, blob tower to ice wall, adventure course, cliff jump, thrill water slide...and the evening ends with another well deserved party. On Sunday, we'll be doing a sprint run, cyclo cross course, obstacle course, swim, more sprinting, etc, etc.

As soon as I realized how much this was scaring me I knew I had to sign up for it. I was at a party at a Kung Fu place on Saturday and found these wise words in the bathroom.

...so I committed. Oh...what have I gotten myself into? A whole lotta fun, I'm thinking!

The second bathroom had some even more profound reading material...
  • Would you or have you ever signed up to do a race like this? Was it simply a BLAST??

  • Have you ever committed to something that scared the poop out of you? Tell me about your biggest craziest commitment and how it turned out. Did providence move once you fully committed?

Oh my gosh...that looks AMAZING. I'd totally do it. It'll be awesome! And really, what's the fun in doing something you KNOW you can do, anyway? :)

My adventure race had me nervous as all get out. I could picture myself wandering, lost, for weeks. Or crashing early on the bike. Or capsizing in the canoe. And it. was. awesome. I'm currently in post-race depression and obsessively re-reading the race report. Until Sunday, when I have the little matter of the private half ironman I signed on for, not realizing it was only a week after the adventure race. Ugh.

@BDD - I'm sure YOU would sign up for this. You've proven your craziness!

Kate - Constantly reading about your adventures as well as Abby's and Laurie's...I just felt like I MUST do this ;-)

First off--LOVE the new look!

I am lol that you read the Kung Fu Palace signs and took them to heart! I think this race will be the bomb. You will have a blast--what fun is it to not take risks in life?

sounds like it would scare the crap outta me...and that's why I would want to do it! Even better when you do things a bit out of your comfort zone with friends.

This sounds like crazy fun! I've been finding that the more things scare me the more fun they are in the end. Even Warrior Dash made me a little nervous and I had a blast! Heck signing up for my first half marathon was almost terrifying - and now I'm hooked.

I bet you are going to have the time of your life!!

This is gonna be fun!!!! I can't wait to read about it! :)

Almost everything has scared me. And as someone else said the more scared the more fun!

You're going to have a blast!!

Racing through the swamps of South Carolina and the jungles of Costa Rica definitely freaked me - but I made it through alive and so will you!

I've never heard of anything like the Wild Canyon Games before. Sounds fun, the party part that is. Actually, I'm sure you'll have fun doing this as a team, but I would clear your schedule for that Monday to rest and recover.

Right now my mentality and training is on road races, but at some point in the future I wouldn't rule a race like that out.

This sounds terrifying and totally frightening! I haven't done something like this but probably should start thinking about something to shake myself up...

Scorpions? You've GOT this.

I don't know if I have ever signed up for anything that scary- maybe a marathon is nearly that scary. I have jumped off of bridges (Not the bungee jumping ones, just normal bike path river bridges).

Something tells me this is the adventure you need!

BTW. What is the thanksgiving race you and Mai are training for. Are we supposed to meet up for it?? Are you registered already?

I totally thought of Kate when reading this and then I read her comments and smiled. :) I have never done anything like this. I don't really remember right this second an example of something I was scared of that I did anyway....maybe that will be a triathlon for me. Going to college was one.

The race sounds like so much fun! The 48-hour adventure race I did this year has managed to scare me before, during and after.

This sounds great! You will have a blast!

Were you able to follow the new blog yet?

That sounds like fun and you will have a great time for sure! I dread the swim of every tri I sign up for, then have a great sense of accomplishment that I did it.

You are brave. I WISH I could bring myself to sign up for something like that. I need to learn more life lessons:D

Well, the only really crazy thing I've agreed to do was the Warrior Dash earlier this month. I ran it while sick and thought I was going to die. But now that its over I'm glad I did it. I think the mud pit ruined my running shoes, but they were old anyway. Life is for living. Enjoy!
