When I asked Jack what he wanted to do on his first day of Summer Vacation (or a 3 month and one day long weekend as he puts it...and is that true by the way? 3 months and one day? Seems quite a long time for kids and parents to be together...), he said he wanted to check out the Hawthorne Bridge.
And that's just what we did.
First a little peek to see what was below...
....then climbing to a higher view point...
...soaked in some sun...
...got a piggyback ride from our old friend, Vera...
...started our trek across the oldest bridge in Portland...
...Phew! That's a relief...
...wondering why we didn't think to bring a swimsuit...
...loving on her "bubby"...
...gathered up some babies...
...perfect timing to see the bridge get raised for a lunch cruise...
...and that's what we call a fun urban hike for the first day of Summer Vacation!!
We're sure glad that...

So fun! When I used to run the esplanade in the morning (in the dark) Vera scared me pretty much every morning.
Looks like a fun start to the long weekend! Love the picture "what a relief picture". That's funny no matter how old you are :-)
One of my favorite songs! Love the urban hike. I like bridges a lot and this would be right up my alley.
How awesome!
Will you be MY mom?
Adopt me...please?
I'll bring a swimsuit.
I remember going over that bridge, I think it was my favorite in Portland! I liked all the various options for different lanes that you could take.
Looks like a great day!
I love that school is out! Looks like you're off to a fun start!
How fun!!! What a great start to summer vacation
I realize this is an odd thing for me to take from this post, but I have never in my life seen a bridge that raises up quite like that one. That is wild! Enjoy your summer.

Hi Julie!! I have a lot to catch up with on your blog! I just started blogging again. Beware, if you check it out though! I'm struggling! I've gained weight and with the kids being teenagers it's just a whole new phase of life to adjust to. I've been thinking about you though because I am doing a tri this weekend. I haven't done one since 1999. I'm not very prepared for this one, but I'm enjoying the training when I get a chance and I'm thinking about working on my swimming this winter and doing more next summer. So my goal for blogging is to find some much needed motivation and start to focus on myself a little more and keep myself accountable, which is what I liked about blogging before.
Hope you are having a great summer!
