I had planned to do my scheduled 20 minute interval run on the treadmill today but by the time I got around to it, I was STARVING because I hadn't yet had breakfast, my left glute that I pulled a couple weeks ago was talking to me, I had a little bit of DOMS because I did a leg workout yesterday even after my dad told me not to (Sorry, Dad!) and I could find no clean socks.
But I told myself "Self...none of that really matters if you put your mind to it...AND... if Birthday Girl Jen can run BAREFOOT outside, then surely you can run without socks. They are Nike Frees afterall...so be free of your socks!"
I had my best HIIT run since starting back last month. I added .31 (THAT's almost a third of a mile people!!! :-) to my 20 minute run since I started running again. I started my warm-up at 5.5mph and hit 8mph for my high point minute at the end. Hooah!!
...and no issues by going sockless.
As I was cooking breakfast and channeling out my own James Brown...
...Steve laughed and said "Eating healthy, not drinking booze, and running is making you feel good? Go figure!"
hehehe
Then I received this in my e-mail from a local trainer here in the Portland/Vancouver area and if you've got about 30 minutes to spare, you might listen to her talk about her top 10 ideas you might think about following this new year. I like them all.

Ohh, going sockless...I haven't done that yet!
Love the James Brown.
Awesome job on the run...and sockless...hooray!
I love James Brown!
Great job on the intervals!
I love that song :) Gonna check out the link in a little while. The kids just knocked over the Christmas tree and there is a HUGE mess on the floor. It got dry..
I've tried sockless in my bike shoes but never running. The Frees are so soft...
ERG - I'm posting a funny Christmas tree story in your comments for you.
Thanks for your story! I was pretty mad, but I forgave them. :) We did take the tree down early, though.
Your story hits home since I have one of those plastic bases. :/
Just don't let your husband pound the bottom of the base with a hammer and you should have no problems with it cracking ;-)
Hey Julie, It has been too long since I've been to your blog! Sorry, I've been such a bad reader. :) Great job on your intervals...your post made me feel good!
And thanks for your great comment on my post. Love your story about your son telling others what his daddy did. ha ha. And Great Bucket list goals! So, Portland marathon twice huh? You must have really liked it to do it again....I'm still trying to decide between that and Newport. I kind of don't want to do both because I might want to try my first tri. We shall see.
I NEED some of what you got going on!! I need to change my attitude, I've got the let's just get these holidays over and move on attitude!! It's just so hard to get on any kind of schedule with the kids home. We have not been home during the day for more than 2 hrs. max, since the day before Christmas eve! I feel so unorganized and not in conotrol. So thanks for this post, I read it from my iphone last night and it put a little smile on my face, and I thought, I've got to get on the same page as my bff blogger :)
Amanda, DO A TRI!! DO A TRI!!! They are so much fun!
Abby ~ I can't imagine what it would be like with three kids at home. I lucked out this Christmas because the gym got a makeover and the new kids club has Wii snowboarding and Wii tennis and some XBOX games so the kids like going to the gym again :-)
Just a couple more days, right?!!!!
Fun post. Love that you can just feel your joy through the words. :) And go figure about the not drinking and eating healthy would make you feel good.. I get that all the time!
Good for you! There's always excuses there. You powered through. And I can't believe you don't like sweets. I know that was the previous post, but I'm just now remembering it. You are lucky. You should be really proud of your intervals! I need to do more of those!
Well...I'll eat sweets if they are there...but if it's potato chips or cake ~ I take the chips!
