It Has Been 5 Days Since...

my last workout. This could trouble me, but it doesn't.

In previous years I would have fought to come back too early from an illness and prolonged the agony for an extra 2 weeks and had a bunch of junk miles of swimming, running and biking. OR I would let a 5 day break head me face first into a bunch of trail putty......but without ever actually hitting any trails...

...and would totally forget working out altogether for a good month or so.

But not this time!  I knew I needed at least one more day to recoup and so I cancelled today's swim. I did, however, mix up some trail putty for my ride this weekend. I think before I freeze them, I will buy some chocolate chips tonight and mix them in (YUM!)

Trail Putty:
½ cup of peanut butter (or almond butter YUM!)
2 tablespoons of honey
2 ½ tablespoons of non-fat powdered milk
½ cup of raisins (or chocolate chips YUM!)
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and then roll into a log. Coat the log (I said log again, hehe) with coconut or grated chocolate. Chill logs in the fridge and then wrap in plastic.

I love tossing a couple logs in the pocket for long rides or run or hikes. I like asking people if they would like a bite of my log. I'm friendly that way.

Now that the chills, high fever and achy body symptoms are wrapping it up, I finally took care of getting my forced my husband to hang my Allied Medal Display up on the wall in my office. Doesn't it look nice?

They were a great company to work with. This was a giveaway I won, so I wasn't even a paying customer, and they got the product out to my doorstep the day after I ordered it. WOW!

I leave you with a picture of something absolutely amazing. My cousin had her baby girl, Katelyn, last night. She is quite early. She is smaller than your hand and weighs only 1 pound and 6 oz. This is her Daddy's ring on her hand. Please keep her in your prayers.

Ohhhh...I am sending lots of prayers Katelyn's way. Although my son was only 5 weeks early, it was still a very scary experience and I know how frightened they must be for their baby. LOTS and LOTS of growing vibes are coming her way!

Those trail logs are awesome! Quick question though, why do you need the powdered milk?? Could you use rolled oats instead? Or something else??

Hahaha - that trail putty looks like a rather different kind of trail putty, but I'll bet it tastes good! (Yours, not the other). Definitely sending prayers for the little one!

Grow, Katelyn, grow! I work in a NICU -- preemies are some of my favorite people :)

I recently had a friend who had a baby about the same size 1 pound 3 oz, she just finally came home about a month ago. I will keep her in my thoughts.

On a side note - the whole log thing is just cracking me up. I like that you "toss" some logs!

The trail putty threw me for a loop until I read further down into the post to see what that was all about. LOL.

After reading about the baby, I took my husband's ring off his hand and tried to imagine a tiny little hand fitting inside. Unreal! Best wishes to your family.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes!! I just got an e-mail from my mom ~

"Katelyn is off the breathing machine - a miracle. She has opened her eyes - very unusual for such a premie. The staff is amazed - God does amazing stuff."

YES! Indeed he does!!!

Aimee, the powdered milk binds it together so it's not all gooey. I imagine you could use oats. This kind of reminds me of Jess' protein bars and I think the protein powder must help bind hers together.

Katelyn in my prayers! She'll but up and running in no time.

If those fall out of your pocket ... do you drop a log?

Your smart - I was sick early last week, started up again after two days, and had a handful of really crummy workouts before I started feeling legitimately better. (And I'm definitely going to try that log for my next long race!)

I love your log...(!)

My cousin had a baby girl very early, also. 1lb, 4oz. It is truly amazing to see what these little miracles can go through. Please know I'm praying for Katelyn.

Oh, sweet baby! I hope she's all right! We make those logs but I never thought about taking them on a ride OR adding chocolate chips! We call it edible play dough and my kids play with it and then eat it! Good to know!

Those bars sound so yummy! I'm so lazy, wish I could be motivated to make them. Maybe!! :)

Thanks for the comment on my blog! As a Stanford fan, that is awesome that you wore the sweatshirt every day for 20 years! And you weren't even a fan! I love it =) I can't believe your husband burned the sweatshirt, I seriously would have started crying or something! haha

That is cool that you're from Portland, one of my brothers lives up there, I'm going to try to visit him in May or so...seems like a gorgeous area!

The medal hanger is very cool. Hubby gets points for putting it up ;)

5 days off--no sweat. You'll be back stronger.

That putty looks sick, but i bet it's yummy!

Wow. This is an amazing picture. Trail log looks great. I might sprinkle sum coconut flakes into mine. Seems like it would melt though. I'm doing my first trail run this weekend so i guess we'll see.
