They Tried To Kill Me...

but they couldn't drop me.

Oh boy! Four of us to start, five by the end.
2 Ironwomen, 2 Ironmen, and this silly mutha.
When I talked with Michele this weekend, I remember she said something about doing hills on Tuesdays from here out, but in her e-mail to me she said " no cue sheet, we will go together and it is pretty easy." and it even had a smiley face at the end.

So...in my mind, I picked up on the "and it is pretty easy" and paid no attention to this part "Out to Hwy30 and then up McNamee, down Newberry and then back here. Ride should be about 2:30 or less."

We gathered at Michele's and I was reminded of the hill (one of the "four b!tches" that we will be apparently be riding during these Tuesday rides in the next month) by my friends, and off we went.

First, we head out to HWY 30 and I'm keeping up ok but enjoying every red light until we get there. Once we hit the HWY, they took off like greased lightning and I just held on for dear life. Once I started to fall a little behind (but not really by much!) and Carly pulled back to pick me back up into the line. I kept alternating between wanting the hill to get here so we could just stop riding so freaking fast and wondering if I would even have the steam to conquer the hill once we got to her. It seemed every time I looked down at my odomoter, it read 23mph. Holy Cr@p!

We finally reached McNamee and up we went. It was tough, but not so tough I didn't think I could do it. I kept up well here. Carly was much faster than us and this is where we picked up Scott, who was also much faster...I think he had been doing hill repeats while he waited for us to arrive :p

On the way down Newberry, they dropped me. I don't mind myself a little downhill but I was riding with Tim, who apparently can't change a flat very well, but who clocks 57mph on his downhills without batting an eye. I was keeping my eye on my speedometer which was at about 30mph and the road signs that were telling me to slow down to 10mph and trying to just survive. We all gathered at the bottom and headed home. My legs have not been this sore from a ride in a LOOOOONG time!

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...right? Right!

You did it! Good for you. And always remember the objects with more mass travel down a slope faster =)

Nice job! "Pretty easy" and "gentle rollers", two phrases undefinable in the workout world.

Go you! I would have totally been with you on the downhill!

As a non-cycling, sane person, I would like to say that this entire thing sounds terrifying! At least you survived! I am pretty sure my feet would get unclipped, I would have braked too hard and I would have planted face first on the street...

So speedy, girl! Way to go on your hill and the speed. I'm afraid of biffing it at that speed. I'm such a wimp! You are so awesome!

Ha! The title alone looks like something Michael would post - and the post itself is exact! Hope your legs feel better soon. Just think about how much stronger you are now though!

I remember the first time I hit 30mph on my bike last year and I knew I was going to crash and die...scared me to death...still does - I can't imagine going any faster.

Great job getting out there and hanging with those Ironmen/women....You Go Girl!!

You rock, girlie! :)

I'd have been peeing my pants on the downhills. And cussing up a storm on the uphills.
