Fun In The Sun Blogger Meet-Up Camping Trip

What a fun camping trip the kids and I had last week!! When Raina @ Small Town Runner and I realized how close my camping spot was to her neck of the woods, we knew we had to make it into a blogger meet-up. We had met once before at the OBC dinner prior to the Eugene Marathon, but this time we wanted to involve our kids. Raina wanted to know if Wednesday or Thursday would be better...I told her I would probably smell better on Wednesday, but circumstances made us wait. I had been swimming in the river a lot anyways...so I'm sure I smelled fresh as a daisy ;-)

Thursday morning as the kids and I sat around the campfire, I reminded my Dad that his campsite was about to be infiltrated by 3 more little kids. Rather than go for a really really really long walk like I had thought he would, he actually stuck around and helped us haul the kids back and forth across the river on his kayak...

...but first things first...we had some waterdog hunting to do...

...AND THEN...we decided to go fishing!
While Raina and I talked, sunbathed and tried to keep track of the non-fishing kids, my awesome mom...

...helped Matthew catch his first bass...

Mai tried her hand at it too...
...and Nathan as well...

Jack was patient and managed to spend some time doing some water meditation when the fishing poles were in use...
After lunch Raina helped the kids find good use of the kindling that was laying around...

and then we tried to cheer up this sleepy guy...

...by putting on our best faces for him...

I know...can you believe Raina let me near her children??

It was A SUCCESS!!!
What is the most fun thing you've done at a blogger meet-up?

Awesome pictures!! We had such a GREAT time with you guys. Your mom and were the BEST and my kids loved playing with Mai and torturing Jack.

Fishing must be the most fun thing I have done, besides talking or racing!! :)

Really FUN stuff, friend! Looking forward to the next one.....:)

Looks like a really good time! It's cool you got a pic of Matthew's first bass. I loved the funny face pictures too.

What a great meet-up! Looks like SO much fun! Love all the pics:) My only blog meet-up was after Boston 2010. I think I drank wine and ate deep fried appetizers or something for Run With Jill's birthday party! Fun for sure!

Looks like you had so much fun! My kids would love all of that... bass fishing and waterdog hunting... all of it :)

I met AmandaRunninghood at a playground... that was pretty fun. And then I was spotted by some blogger-marathoners in SF weekend before last... I was there to cheer them on and missed them, but they saw me :P Not much of a meet-up. lol

Super fun! I love camping and doing all things like that. Haven't met many bloggers as I'm on the other side of the planet than most. Most fun must have been running with Staci from She Run's in Sandals.

I'm thinking Raina went home and called Child Social Services after these pics were taken! ;) What a wonder meet-up with a wonderful lady and kiddos. Such special times together, how cool!!!

Looks like you all had a blast.

Have you ever run the Warrior Dash? It's coming to a city near me next month and I'm seriously considering it. You have scale a tower of hay, crawl through mud and leap over fire, etc. It's insane.

I love that last pic best of you, BTW! :)

Nathan says, "Mai, I like when we went across the river. And I liked it when I caught the biggest bass. But it's cool that you caught a fish!"

I am sooo jealous! I have never been to a blogger meet up! Maybe bloging isn't a big in my neck of the woods :-(

That's great that you got to have a bloggy meet-up!
Also, very cool that your kids were in life vests near-shore while fishing. We just got our little guy (2 yrs) into a new life vest for crabbing this past weekend and need to get him used to the idea that water = life vest. Rivers can be deceiving, just don't know how fast they're moving underneath...

@Epic Fail - I'm doing something like the Warrior Dash in October at Mt. Hood. We'll be tossing kegs, flipping tires, archery...and of course, drinking beer :D

This looks great Julie! Love your pictures! So glad you guys got to meet up. I love Raina! She's such an amazing woman and I'm sure you are too!

Oh and I've met Julie D., Marjorie, Nicole Wagner, Stacie D, Raina and I feel like I've met Jenn (lots of phone conversations, text and e-mails) and a few other bloggers...Sarah Bowen Shea (author of Run Like a Mother), and a few other Vancouver girls. Gee, that's a lot!

Waterdogs!!! I used to love finding and collecting them when I was little. They are soooo cute!

My most fun blogger meet-up type thing was probably my pre-race sleep over. Nothing like having the race atmosphere start the night before with a hotel room of girls laying out costumes, getting up early to get some princess make-up on and then racing!

Your race sounds more involved than the Warrior Dash. I want to come run that one, too!
