Meet Cadence

I made a big step today and finally bought a road bike!!! ~ Meet Cadence. She was in my possession for less than two hours before I broke her. Grrr.
I was out for a 25 mile ride and at 15 miles she quit shifting into the smaller gears so after doing everything I could think of and poking everything I could poke, I headed home and took a shower and after I was all cleaned up, Steve went up to her, smacked her good and she started working again. Hmm.
I'll take her out again for some hill repeats this week to see how I do climbing with the double crank.

I ran for an hour this morning and was beat or I would have taken her back out for some more slick rainy roads once Steve "fixed" her.

Mai and I decided to make Poo Bars tonight. Have you guys had these things? They are a Precision Nutrition recipe and I'm not sure of the correct name but I got them off of Skwigg's blog a couple years ago and she called them Poo Bars ('cause they look just like a bathroom log when they're done cooking). HOWEVER...Mai and I realized when we were mixing them up and dipping our fingers into the batter that the best part of making Poo bars is when they are uncooked! ... so we decided to see if they will last in the fridge (the only thing I'm worried about is the bananas going funky) and we'll eat them like cake batter this week for pre and post workout yumminess.

Purpose Driven Life
Day 4 QTC: Since I was made to last forever, what is the one thing I should stop doing and the one thing I should start doing today?

I could think of quite a few scenarios to answer this question, but I'm going with this one:
I should stop worrying what people think.
I should start making relationships with all people the most important thing in my day- not just the ones I have (and need work on) with my family and friends, but the relationships I have with the checker at Safeway and the gas station attendant, people at the gym, the person whose eye I catch driving down the road...everyone.

P36 "This life is preparation for the next"...and I need to keep that at the forefront of my mind. I have work to do here on Earth and I would hate for this life to end and realize that I never got around to it.

P39 "We will enjoy unbroken fellowship with God, and he will enjoy us for an unlimited, endless forever." WOW WOW WOW - unbroken fellowship with God. I mean, c'mon - does it get any better than that? I cannot wait to meet my maker and share unbroken fellowship with Him.

Hi Liz and C ~
Here's the post from Skwigg's blog. She says to cook them for 14 minutes, I would do even less - maybe 12 - I don't like them when they start to get too dried out, but be warned, it's hard to get them off the foil when you go to eat them.

Poo Bars

Here is the recipe for the post-workout Peanut Butter Banana Bars from Gourmet Nutrition. I'm telling you right now that if you make them with chocolate protein powder instead of vanilla, they are delicious but they look like a big foil-wrapped poop and you'll be teased mercilessly.

Ingredients:

8 scoops vanilla whey protein

2 cups rolled oats

4 medium bananas (raw)

1.2 oz banana chips (about one handful)

4 tbsp chunky peanut butter

1 cup granulated Splenda

1 tsp salt

Makes 8 servings. Each serving - 323 cals, 37g carb, 28g pro, 8g fat, 5g fiber

In a clean, dry blender, process 1 cup of the rolled oats into flour (blend on medium for about 1 minute). After removing the oat flour, put the banana chips into the blender and chop for a few seconds. Throw all of the dry ingredients into a big bowl and stir together: oat flour, the remaining rolled oats (1 cup), chopped banana chips, protein powder, Splenda, salt.

Slice the raw bananas into the blender and process on medium speed until you get a puree. Add the peanut butter and blend for a few seconds, just until mixed (you want to leave some peanut chunks for texture). Stir the banana-peanut butter puree together with dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Cut 8 squares of aluminum foil about 6x10 inches each. Lightly coat each piece of foil with olive oil cooking spray. Spoon out an equal portion of the mixture onto each foil square and roll them into a bar shape. Fold them like tamales, folding the ends over as well. You can attempt to flatten them into more of a bar shape once they're rolled up.

Bake the bars in their foil wrappers in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees F for 16-20 minutes. BIG WARNING - do not overcook them. In my case they were totally done in 14 minutes. I would think that by 20 minutes you'd have an oven full of bricks.

HA...Julie I was going to ask for you Poo recipe too! I will substitue my Agave nectar for the splenda though. May time me a few times to figure out the right ratio!

And here are my answers:

I need to stop worry about the small details of all the nothingness...the things that do NOT matter. I too need to stop worrying about what other people thing...in my case, it is something that REALLY holds me back from trying. This huge fear of failing in all aspects of my day-to-day living is silliness. The funny thing is, I've had this discussion with friends and they were shocked to know that is how I feel. Apparently I present as someone who is very confident...BAH! Such a joke.
What I need to START doing effective today is looking at the bigger picture. I love the "preparation" analogy...and comparing it to the 9 months of pregnancy was brilliant! I've just finished reading The Shack...so I have SUCH a vivid picture of fellowship and what it could be like in my mind (if any of you haven't read it...PLEASE DO!!!) It has really relaxed my thoughts and views and brought to the forefront of my mind that once again I need to work on REAL forgiveness. Think big picture...forgiveness not only releases the person you're angry with...but it will also release your soul.
:)

PS - Love your sassy new bike Julie!!!

Have a great day today!

Hello Cadence! You are so pretty..be nice to mama, okay? Maybe someday you can meet Sheila..ha!

Did you bring the bike in just for a tuneup? That can fix and prevent a whole host of issues..finding a good shop is like finding a pediatrician but once you find someplace you love, they will TAKE CARE OF YOU..get thee a tune-up..Cadence needs a day at the spa :)

Paula - I'm going to make an appt right now to have Rivercity check her out this week! Don't want that to happen again on a long hilly ride!

FYI on the poo recipe. I should also note that I use Isopure Dutch Chocolate Whey protein powder and we flourized both cups of oats last night, but if you do it as the directions state, you'll have some large pieces of oats in the mix.

Helen -
I totally agree - the pregnancy analogy was terrific!TERRIFIC!

I DID enjoy The Shack. I'm thinking about reading it again this weekend. I'm loving this no tv thing - I'm reading more AND in bed and getting 8 full hours of sleep every night!

Hi Julie!! Yes, you will be getting a BUNCH of comments from me today! :)

Thank you for the poo bar recipe - looks yummy and I am a big believer that things don't have to "look" good to taste good! I love all of the PN recipes - most of them are super practical!

As for Cadence, she is a PEACH! I remember when I got my first road bike, I loved her - treated her like a queen. But I too, had issues with shifting. But my hubby insisted is was me....not the bike. A few years later, one of our friends who owns a bike shop, offered to tune me up for free. He called me a couple days later and told me my bike was the most jacked up bike he had ever seen and after 4 hours of tuning, he thought it was ride-able. :)

I can't wait to hear more about Cadence's adventures!
